Gastric Bypass
Gastric Bypass

Gastric bypass may be an option for weight loss surgery for those who are not suitable for sleeve gastrectomy. In this method, the reduction of your stomach volume is the aim. But unlike sleeve gastrectomy surgery, the part at the beginning of the stomach is separated from the rest with surgical staples and a small pouch is created at the top of the stomach. This sac is then connected to the small intestine, and the nutrients you take are collected in the newly formed sac instead of the majority of the stomach and pass directly into the small intestine. This means you will need fewer nutrients and therefore fewer calories to feel full.

Before undergoing gastric bypass surgery, there are some tests you should undergo to see if you are a suitable candidate. You need to go through procedures such as urine tests, blood tests, chest X-rays, pulmonary function tests, internal diseases consultation, and anesthesia consultation.

Gastric bypass operation is laparoscopic, that is, a closed operation. The small part of the stomach, partly separated, is connected to the middle of the intestine. Thus, while the volume of consumed food is restricted, its absorption in the intestine is also reduced. After the operation, the patient must go through regular controls and analyses for a certain period of time after staying in the hospital for approximately 3-4 days.
